Port Resident Gets On Board at Vision Long Island

Non-profit organization promotes environmentally responsible growth on Long Island.

Vision Long Island, a non-profit organization that helps promote environmentally responsible growth on Long Island, recently elected Port Washington resident Bruce W. Migatz to its Board of Directors.

Migatz, who is a partner at Garden City law firm Albanese & Albanese, LLP, has been an active participant in various Vision Long Island community functions over the past five years. As a board member, Migatz said he hopes to be more involved with Vision's mission to promote more livable, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible growth on Long Island through Smart Growth.

"I'm looking forward to leading this organization by helping them promote the good services that they do," Migatz said.

The 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization educates, advocates, plans, designs, and provides technical assistance on Smart Growth projects and brings the best practices of community design together with experts, stakeholders, and decision makers to advance quality growth and preservation on Long Island.

Vision Long Island supports mixed-use, mixed-income communities that are convenient, attractive, pedestrian-friendly, and that make affordable housing and public transportation desirable and realistic. Through Smart Growth, Vision creates walkable neighborhoods, encourages community collaboration, preserves open space and critical environmental areas, and strengthens development towards existing communities.

"Bruce brings legal experience in zoning and knowledge of development and redevelopment on Long Island," said Eric Alexander, executive director of Vision. "We've been able to connect with developers because of his experience."

Migatz is a graduate of Boston University and St. John's University's School of Law. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1976 and to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. In addition to trial and appellate work, including personal injury, commercial and criminal matters, Migatz concentrates his efforts in municipal and zoning law and serves as General Counsel to numerous co-ops and condominiums.

The Port Washington resident is also heavily involved with the Long Island community. He was a former Chief Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of North Hempstead and former Village Attorney for the Incorporated Village of Manorhaven. He is a member of the Nassau County and New York State Bar Associations, New York State Trial Lawyers Association and Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Town of North Hempstead Councilman Fred. L. Pollack, who represents the Sixth Council District which includes Port Washington and the villages of Baxter Estates, Manorhaven, Port Washington North and Sands Point, said he thinks Migatz will make a big difference in the future of the organization.

"Given his extraordinary experience in the field of real estate development, he will make a significant contribution to this important organization," Pollack said.
