Port's Post Office Annex Is A Welcome Addition
The new post office annex, located in Ace Hardware at Soundview Marketplace, is good for local businesses and residents.
Port Washington residents can likely write off waiting in long lines in order to send snail mail. That's because a new post office annex is in town.
Located in the back of Ace Hardware in Soundview Marketplace, the annex is a convenience to local shoppers, whether they need to send a package or simply pick up stamps.
And with a grand opening held on Nov. 3, the remote site is up and running, just in time to meet the upcoming holiday rush – some of the busiest days at the post office.

Port Washington's Postmaster Cassandra Louie said the partnership enables the post office to offer the community "expanded access to postal products and services" while Ace Hardware can provide a value-added service to customers.
Local resident Ann Deasy gives the annex high marks.

"I think it's a good idea because you can take care of your postal business while doing other shopping in the Soundview center, [getting] grocies and so on," Deasy said.
The new annex may help ease the traffic burden on Main Street, near the main post office, where finding a parking spot can prove challenging.
As Deasy pointed out, at Soundview, "there's plenty of parking, which makes it convenient. The area around the main post office is pretty congested."
The new location is not only convenient for Soundview shoppers, but also merchants. Already, the annex is generating new foot traffic to the complex, and that is especially welcome after the Clearview Cinema, the movie theater in the complex, closed in late September.
"It definitely brings in business, it's started to pick up," said Ace Hardware Manager Steve Beekharr. "A lot of people come in, and they said it helps them a lot – it's easier than lining up at the regular post office."
So, if a visit to the post office is on your list of errands after shopping at or before enjoying ice cream at , walk straight to the back of Ace Hardware, and find service that is strikingly similar to that of a regular post office.
The annex is open for business during most store hours, which are as follows:
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
