Schreiber Grad Creates Hot New Photo App

John Meyer's "Perfect Shot" helping users take better photos.

A 2013 Schreiber High School graduate has created a popular new iPhone app that is helping users to take better photos.

Perfect Shot, created by Port Washington native and Polytechnic Institute of New York University freshman John H. Meyer, detects when people are smiling and blinking before it automatically takes photos. A manual shutter option is also available.

According to fastcompany.com, the app has gotten 50,000 downloads in 17 countries since its debut this week.

Meyer's company, TapMedia, has also developed a flashlight app, which capitalizes on the iPhone’s flash function on the camera, and an app that integrates an underwater video screensaver with music and information about the species swimming across the screen, according to an NYU News report.

With the Perfect Shot, photographers do not need to see the subjects in the shots — which is useful to those with disabilities.

“I’m working on furthering the app to where it will actually talk to you," Meyer told NYU News.
