TJ Day Benefits Homeless Dogs in Port Washingtong

Proceeds went to North Hempstead's Animal Shelter.

The Shields family, friends and staff didn’t let a little rain and cold weather stop them from hosting the 2nd annual TJ Day event to benefit homeless dogs at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter on Columbus Day weekend.

Shields Plumbing and Hardware was transformed into a carnival for dogs and their owners with all proceeds donated to The Shelter Connection non-profit organization that improves the lives and outlook for dogs accepted at our Town shelter regardless of age, breed, size or behavior.  TJ is, as many Port residents know, Patti Shields’ recued dog who is a friendly fixture at the store and was October 2011 Dog-of-the Month for the Dog a Day Calendar.

Attendees brought their dogs to pose for dog and owner portraits against a colorful dog house and blue sky backdrop painted by Richie Cifarelli. Main Street Bakery & Café cooked up gourmet dog biscuits that were included in doggie goodie bags along with lots of toys and treats, and Port Tennis Academy provided plenty of tennis balls for athletically inclined dogs and their owners.

The Shelter Connection and shelter staff appreciate the support of TJ and his family as well as the opportunity to encourage people to opt to adopt their next best friend from our shelter. Visit their website for information about their available dogs and hours of operation of the shelter located on Marino Road.

Watch for the next upcoming TSC benefit the annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade sponsored by Unleashed Pet Boutique & Spa, Sunday, October 28th 12:00 to 3:00 PM at Blumenfeld Family Park at the Landmark on Main Street.  More Prizes, Raffles & Refreshments for two and four legged Friends and gifts for all!
