What Do You Think of the New Patch?

A completely new design is being tested on five Nassau County Patch sites.

On Sunday night, Patch launched a redesigned platform on five of its sites in BellmoreGarden CityLevittownLong Beach and Merrick.

The biggest change is the addition of "groups" — topic-specific news feeds that let Patch users choose the updates they receive on the customizable homepage. Groups now organize all news, content and information on the new site. By following or unfollowing different groups, users can make the daily experience of taking in the news more relevant to their everyday lives. Click here to see the new groups feature in action in a video tour of the new site.

The major groups, like Breaking News, Schools, etc. — will be run by Patch editors — but users are also encouraged to start groups of their own. Members of a group can post their own stories, photos, events or just talk about news happening in the community. All in all, the new site fosters a more collaborative community atmosphere that fits the way each town works from day to day.

By design, Patch users outside of the five test towns cannot post or create items on the test sites. This was done to prevent out-of-town content from filling up each of the sites, and to keep things locally relevant. Also, some features may change before the new platform is launched nationally.

Visit the BellmoreGarden CityLevittownLong Beach or Merrick Patch sites and let us know what you think.

Patch is testing a redesign on 5 Long Island sites. What do you think? All feedback welcome!

I only want the Mineola Patch. If I want news from Hauppague, Sag Harbor or any other town miles away from me I'll get the Newsday. What do I have to just get whatI want?

The redesign reeks of desperation. A dying gasp of a poorly thought out corporate version of local news. Yeech!

If it pushes Steve Labate's self-serving/no comments political ads off the front page, I'm all for it.

Where are the blogs? I like the current format that shows the blogs plus some current local stories. And give me all the postings that Mr. Labate wants to make. I hope he is our next representative to Congress after being stuck with Mr. Ackerman for over 25 years.

Nassau Taxpayer: Who is Steve Labate?
George Mulligan:You did't like Mr. Ackerman? LOL

George, thanks. I believe the blogs now are featured within certain group categories, that readers can follow depending on their interests. We're trying to determine how this experience is for the readers.

@ultrallusions - did you have any specifics about the reader experience that you liked or didn't like?

Particularly out of line since it's a shared-use puddle for camp groups splashing, not a good poolRead More venue for individuals swimming.

The TONH should be under some investigation for charging such a high fee for a very short summerRead More season. You lose most of june and the pool closes in early September. Better off paying as you go just purchase the parking permit which is good at the Manorhaven Pool and the Harbor beach. Stop buying a season pass in protest to the yearly excessive price increase.

And speaking of investigations, what's up with Jonny's Roslyn CC fiasco?

Contact the Village and the water district, it's probably a problem with a pipe on your street.
