2009 Goes Out With a Bang

New Year's Eve snowstorm leaves between two to four inches on ground, but residents say they'll go on with their nights as planned.

Mother Nature left residents with one last memory for 2009 — a New Year's Eve snowstorm.

Snow came down fast and furious this morning, causing The National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for Nassau County which remains in effect for tonight.

The weather conditions caused slick and slippery roads which led to numerous car accidents across Long Island, including multiple crashes on the Northern State Parkway and Long Island Expressway.

"We're going to the movies, then dinner, and then we're staying home to watch TV," added Rosemary Iconis, another local resident.

And Baxter Estates resident Emrah Eritamy put it simply. "Nothing has changed," he said. "But I will be staying home."

There are currently no delays reported on the Long Island Rail Road, specifically on the Port Washington line. Motorists are urged use continued caution throughout the evening and allow for extra time to get to their destinations.

Overall, it doesn't seem that the storm will affect Port Washington residents' plans for the evening.

"The weather is not going to affect me at all," Port Washington resident George Glascl said. "I'm driving to a party here in Port tonight."
