No. 99: Landmark on Main Street

Not your average community center.

 is hands-down one of Port Washington's best resources. Harkening back to the days when opera houses were the heart of a community, Landmark is all that and more.

Once called the Main Street School, where thousands of local students were educated, the Landmark literally serves every age group in Port Washington.

Sure, the stage of the Landmark's Jeanne Rimsky Theater provides an intimate setting that welcomes such headline performers as Raul Malo, Maureen McGovern and They Might Be Giants. It also hosts children's theater – including, fittingly, the opera "The Three Little Pigs." And welcomes bestselling, local authors Susan Isaacs and Nelson DeMille.

The Landmark also provides 59 units of affordable housing for seniors and the developmentally disabled. It houses the , a nonprofit organization where children can take music and tumbling classes, and moms and dads can join a fitness class, book group, or parenting course. Most importantly, it's where local bonds are formed for parents and kids alike.

What's more, it houses the , where teens can enjoy a night of skateboarding and hang out with friends. There's the , where many working parents send their kids for daycare. And there's the Doctor's Gym, home to fitness courses, parties and celebrations.
