Baby, It's Hot Outside

How folks in Port are coping with the heat.

It's 100 degrees in the shade, but people in Port Washington are taking the heat in stride.

Gloria Talerman and Ken Kadin, for example, found a shady bench outside of Ralph's Famous Italian Ices. The spot, they noted, is a short walk from the John Philip Sousa Memorial Band Shell, where there are plenty of trees "and there is always a breeze," Talerman said. Asked how he felt about the heat, Kadin said, "A little rain wouldn't hurt."

Gina Trombley brought her little ones to Blumenfeld Family Park, where there's a play area complete with sprinklers. "We're staying cool with the sprinklers," she said. "It's well shaded here, and we can hang out with friends."

Cecilia Renga, the owner of Time and Again Consignment Shop, is staying hydrated with a thermos of ice water. There's been strong demand for swimsuits and sun dresses, which she's showcased in the front of the store. Walk into her shop, and you will find the the spotlights off and the fans on. "I'm keeping my customers and myself cool," she said.
