A look at family-friendly events in Port Washington.

  1. Two-kid flicks open Friday; see them at the on Main Street. Animated Wild West comedy Rango features the voices of swashbuckler Johnny Depp and child actress Abigail Breslin. Teen romance thriller Beastly, a retelling of Beauty & the Beast, opens as well, featuring High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens.
  2. Hands-on history unfolds at the interactive Port Nature & History Fest at the from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibits include concrete making, live animals, story-telling and more. 
  3. Checkmate! Chess workshops at the launch Sunday for kids ages 6-12 with an adult chess partner. Sundays in March at 1:30 p.m. or 2:45 p.m.; registration required.
  4. Wet and wacky fun at the annual Polar Plunge Saturday 9 a.m. to noon at . 
  5. Stay in your PJs a little late Sunday morning with at the from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Open to all kids under the age of 6. Come enjoy stories, songs and balloons.
