Last-Minute Costumes and Accessories Still Available in Port Washington

Local stores like Spirit Halloween, Rite Aid, and Dolphin Bookshop have what you Hallow-need.

Halloween is officially upon us!  Many Port Washington residents have their personas ready for parties and trick or treat treks, but those still frantically searching for a disguise need not worry.  There are several locations still waiting to provide community members with their holiday needs.

For the latest trends in Halloween fashion, costume seekers need go no further than Soundview Marketplace, where Spirit Halloween has a plethora of outfits, masks, and other accessories.  According to manager Margaret Moreno, the top sellers for preteens and their predecessors seem to be the slightly skimpy versions of popular characters such as Alice in Wonderland, lady bugs, race car drivers, and 1980's girls.

"It's the only day they get to [dress like this]," said Moreno.  "But sometimes their parents end up coming back and returning them!"

As for the younger girls, Disney characters like Minnie Mouse have been the most popular, along with Alice in Wonderland, and different types of fairies.  For the guys, the horror section tends to satisfy spooky agendas.

"[The guys] mostly want to be zombies and vampires, not really superheroes," Moreno said.  She was also surprised to see that Star Wars was not a big hit this year.

If you're looking for a cheaper quick fix, Rite Aid, a few doors down, has an aisle equipped with simple ghoulish garb, along with accessories for the face and hair.

"We can't even tell what's going now, whatever's there is there," said a manager who asked not to be named.

When thinking about the holiday don't forget Dolphin Bookshop, where the Halloween Spirit is alive.  Available costumes are mostly for small children, who have the opportunity to don fireman, pirate, knight, or poodle skirt outfits.  Several parents have purchased a raincoat and boots set to use for costumes.

While other accessories are available, the main focus seems to be the story behind Halloween.  The shop offers a story time, called the "witching hour," during which children's books such as Room on the Broom, Halloweiner and Bats at the Ballgame are told to young ears who care to listen.

"We do really well with books," said store manager Debbie Klein.

So, if you need to transform yourself tonight or tomorrow, or just need to pick up some extra fake teeth or hair dye, go no further than these three nearby locations.  They'll have you out the door with what you need before you can say "boo!"
