Minor Derailment Won't Affect LIRR Rush Hour

LIRR spokesman says the incident is currently under investigation.

Around 12:25 p.m., the 11:39 a.m. eastbound train from Penn Station set to arrive at Port Washington for its final stop hit a bit of a snag.

"When the train was about to arrive at Port Washington for its final stop, the train came into contact with the bumper block – the device that marks the end of the track," explained LIRR spokesman Sam Zumbuto. "And in doing so one wheel of one car came off the track. ... It was a minor derailment with one wheel coming off the track."

There are currently five to 10 minute delays in both directions on the Port Washington Branch, due to the derailment.

"We are not anticipating this incident affecting the rush hour," Zambuto said.

Customers on board the train exited without incident and there were no reported injuries of either customers or the train crew, according to Zambuto.
