Power Restored to Port Washington

Outage caused by substation issue, which is under investigation.

Power has been restored to Port Washington after an outage affected 6,100 homes and businesses on the peninsula.

The outage was caused by substation issue that is still under investigation, said Vanessa Baird-Streeter, a spokeswoman for Long Island Power Authority.

For 1,862 LIPA customers, power was restored in six minutes, while 816 customers had their power back in 21 minutes, Baird-Streeter said. For 3,431 customers, power was restored in 58 minutes.

According to LIPA, the areas of Sands Point, Port Washington North, Baxter Estates, and Manorhaven were affected. 

The power outage occurred just before 12 p.m. At 12:13 p.m., the Long Island Rail Road reported that the ticket vending machines at the  station were not in service because of the outage. However, service at the railroad was restored by 12:30 p.m.
