Schools Close as Snow Arrives

Police warn motorists to avoid driving; LIRR alters commuter train schedule

Port Washington public schools and the Vincent Smith School are closed again today as more snow arrived and promises to linger across the region.

The rain which fell on the area yesterday has frozen and been covered with several inches of snow making travel hazardous. Aside from icing conditions, visibility is limited, according to Nassau Police.

"Motorists are advised to use to use extreme caution and to travel only if it is essential to do so," a Nassau Police release stated this morning. Plows were out and about overnight as snow continued to fall.
