The Aftermath of the Storm

Saturday night's storm wreaked havoc in and around Port Washington.

In the midst of the storm on Saturday night, many Port Washington roads were closed due to flooding and many trees and power lines were taken out by the weather. The Port Washington portion of Manhasset Bay flooded into Mill Pond, closing off part of Shore Road, one of the main access roads in town. Multiple power lines and trees in the area came falling down or were in danger of falling, thus impeding access to many roads around town. Long Island Power Authority reported more than 121,000 customers without power as of 8 p.m. last night. The police presence was apparent throughout the evening, making sure that those drivers who decided to leave their homes were out of harm's way.
