Sizzling temperatures alone doesn’t necessarily warrant a full blast of air-conditioning. Just ask Hy Pupkin, who drives an Education Assistance Corporation bus that provides transportations for the seniors to the center.

“I have the AC going, and they ask me to turn it down,” Pupkin said, with a laugh.

The was fairly quiet. Director of Community Relations Jackie Kelly thought that might have more to do with the fact it was a light programming day. Monday, when there were many more events, was a much busier day.

Meanwhile, local leaders are keeping an eye on the temperatures for Thursday.

“We are monitoring the heat carefully,” said Dr. Geoffrey Gordon, superintendent of Port Washington schools.

By late Wednesday morning, there was a heat advisory in place, but no heat warning, so school was proceeding as scheduled with no cancellations.

“With temperatures expected to reach approximately 95 degrees tomorrow, we are carefully evaluating the conditions,” he said.
