Looking Back at Tropical Storm Irene

One year after the storm struck Port Washington and the peninsula.

As Isaac is poised to hit the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts, Patch looks back a year ago to Tropical Storm Irene. It was one year ago when , prompting residents and shopkeepers to board their windows. Some evacuated their homes.  was converted into a , and residents were left without power. Port Washington was dotted with fallen trees and blocked roads, and asked people to stay indoors for their safety. North Hempstead  authorized a 100-person Highway Department tree-trimming crew to work side-by-side with Long Island Power Authority personnel to speed up power restoration. Patch looks back at some of those images.
