Video: Tougher DWI Laws Proposed For 2011

State Sen. Fuschillo and Nassau DA Rice introduce bill for mandatory sentences for repeat DWI arrests.

, R-Merrick, is targeting drunk drivers once again.

Fuschillo, joined Tuesday morning by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, announced that he will introduce legislation early next year that would require repeat convicts of driving while intoxicated to spend time in jail. 

The legislation would require drunk drivers to serve a minimum of 30 days in jail for their second DWI offense in 10 years, and a minimum of 90 days in jail if they are convicted of three or more DWI offenses within 10 years.

Fuschillo also recently sponsored a new law that requires DWI convicts to install ignition interlock devices in their vehicles.
