What to Do with All That Candy
Problem: Halloween leftovers mean calories and cavities. Solution: Donate candy to a great cause.
Who needs all that Halloween candy? Now there's no excuse for eating too much of it, and no reason to dump it in the trash: Local dentists and organizations participating in a Halloween Candy Buy Back program will pay you up to one dollar for every pound of unopened wrapped candy you bring in.
Donated goodies are then shipped to Operation Gratitude, an organization that needs tons of candy, literally, to fill the 60,000 Holiday Care Packages they will ship to U.S. Military troops overseas. Write to a hero. In addition to or instead of candy, you can donate good wishes by writing a letter to a deployed service member. The OperationGratitude website has suggested guidelines for why and what to write about, and they'll forward the letter for you. For details visit www.opgratitude.com/from_iraq.php.
