Jackie Klein - Volunteer with the Port Washington Fire Department - Fire Medic Company #1. Jackie volunteers thousands of hours each year selflessly. Jackie has helped hundreds of people here in our town at all hours of the day and night. Jackie is an NYS EMT and also volunteers at Helen Keller with the deaf.

I was going to nominate my wife, who as a NYC elementary school social studies teacher impacts the lives of over 300 students per week. But since Jackie is a volunteer, I will give her the edge.

I've known Jackie since she and my son were in second grade together. She's got my vote too!

I second Jackie Klein! I was Board President of the Parent Resource Center for two years and Jackie was an enthusiastic volunteer for us. Always came through when we were in a pinch. She is very active across a variety of community organizations and cares deeply for the people of PW.

I would also like to nominate Assemblywoman Michelle Schimmel who has been an advocate for the community --our families, our environment, our children. She works tirelessly to represent the Port community and has been a tremendous supporter of the various organizations working to improve life on the peninsula. She has secured funding for the Parent Resource Center for many years and even in these tough economic times, fights to get funding for the causes that directly impact the people of Port. You only need to google her to see all the good she has done.

I dont thnk that elected officials just doing their job should be nominated for person of the year, nor should they have their names appear on projects that have been funded by taxpayers
Jason December 16, 2011 at 03:53 PM
Michelle Schimmel would be crazy! Jackie Klein is the way to go!

Jackie Klein has my vote. She is a true unsung hero of the Fire Medic Company of the PWFD. I have know Jackie for many years and I have seen her in selfless service to this community. God forbid you ever need to have an ambulance come to your aid; but if you do, you want Jackie Klein showing up in that ambulance. Thank you Jackie for all that your do! We are very proud of you. You make a very positive difference to our community.

How about Patch editor Adina Genn, who does a fabulous job day in and day out.
Adina Genn (Editor) December 16, 2011 at 05:23 PM
Thanks George, but I'm just doing my job :) Keep the suggestions coming, they are fabulous!
