Writer's Contest: What You Love About Port

Pride in Port Essay Contest deadline is September 15.

Do you love our restaurants or enjoy watching the sunset from the Town Dock?  Do you admire our volunteer firefighters as they head down Main Street in a phalanx of dress blues at the Memorial Day Parade?  As part of this year's Pride in Port celebration, which takes place on Oct. 2, you can enter the essay contest and let us know what gives you Pride in Port.

The contest will have four divisions:  Elementary (grades 5 and under), Middle School (grades 6 through 8), High School (grades 9 through 12) and Adult.   Winning essays will be displayed at the evening dinner dance; winners will be invited to march in the Pride in Port parade; and winning essays may be locally published.

Pride in Port has been an annual celebration of our community for over 20 years.  This year's activities will kick off with a parade at 11:30 a.m., followed by free family fun day activities on the Weber field and a luncheon honoring senior citizens at the Schreiber cafeteria. The Schreiber football game that day will include Port Washington's Hall of Fame induction at half-time. The day will be capped off by a community dinner dance at the Polish Hall.
