Incumbents Survive on North Hempstead Town Board

With three North Hempstead town board incumbents surviving challenges Tuesday, the political makeup of the governing body will remain virtually the same in 2014.

Aside from a change at the top with Judi Bosworth's decisive win over Republican North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio in the supervisor race, none of the four-year seats will be filled with newcomers next year.

Receiving nearly 63 percent of the vote, third council district GOP Councilman Angelo Ferrara of New Hyde Park handily won a fourth term over newcomer Sidhartha Nathan 4,777 to 2,818.

Incumbent Democratic Councilwoman Lee Seeman of Great Neck edged out GOP challenger Jeffrey Benjamin 3,929 to 3,221 to win her third term in the board's fifth council district.

In the first council district race, Democrat Viviana Russell was elected to a second consecutive term, defeating Republican Anthony Bulzomi 3,506 to 2,624 votes.

In 2014, the town board will again consist of two Republicans and four Democrats along with a newly-elected Democratic town supervisor.
