Follow Elena to the Democratic National Convention!

Born and raised in Port Washington, follow Elena as she embarks on her trip to the Democratic National Convention. Fashion forward as always!

A few days ago, as I was walking out of , the yoga studio where I teach, I received a phone call from the DC area code. Immediately I knew who it had to be: the Senator. Three-and-a-half years ago during the summer of '08 I interned with the Senator of DC, Paul Strauss. Unfortunately, because DC isn't a state he doesn't get any voting rights, but he does get to enjoy most of the perks. One of which, is being a delegate at the Democratic national convention.

"Box!" exclaims the Senator when I answer his impromptu phone call. "Guess what I'm getting geared up for?"
"The convention?" I respond. Attempting to contain my excitement, as I had a feeling I knew what was coming.
"Yeah! You want in?"
When I went to the DNC with The Senator 3-1/2 years ago, I thought, "Wow this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Little did I know that I would get another shot at it!
Let me just say the convention is an experience like none other. An insane, week-long eventwhere you will inevitably meet everybody who is any body. Start off the morning doing a radio interview with Al Sharpton, have lunch with Dan Rather, only to finish off the day partying with the Black Eyed Peas.
My first thought after accepting the Senator's offer was: "Holy moly here we go again!"
The second was: "Oh my goodness, I have nothing to wear!"
Lately my closet was looking more and more like an advertisement for Yoga Journal. Capitol Hill style? You've got to be kidding me.
Two nervous melt downs, five sun salutations, and a pot of coffee later, I found myself at Nordstrom. I found many Politico ready ensembles that even Michelle Obama's biceps would approve of. And then of course, I had to make a stop at DSW, also known as Shoe Mecca.
A couple of Benjamins later, I can now proudly say : "Bring it on DNC!"
Tomorrow, I leave for Charlotte, North Carolina.  I'll be blogging as I go. Follow me from the convention floor, to parties with the cream of the crop! It will be an interesting time, I am sure of that!

Yea, Al Sharpton. An illiterate racist.
You go girl.

How can Sharpton afford to go to a convention when he has a multi- million dollar judgement against him for creating a false rape case against a former assistant district attorney?

Your smart wit, good natured charm, and hilarious humor make you a great person to be around no matter who's there! I hope you find yourself 'there' many times during the Convention. Cheers!

Al Sharpton and others like him are able to attend the DNC from Obamas posse fund that the taxpayers pay for.

Nice going and good writing. Is this like an unpaid intership with "benefits." What is this obsession with Sharpton. shal we raise Nixon and "I am not a crook".. Elena, proceed with caution; Some of these politicos are not there just for votes... they expect benefits... Remember to call mom..every day
