Freeport Community Band presents a Musical Salute to Our Armed Forces

The Freeport Community Band presents a Salute to Our Veterans on the 70th Anniversary of D Day.  The program will present a variety of patriotic music, both spirited and reflective to honor the service of our men and women in our Armed Forces.  The program will be rounded out by some favorite popular music of the 1940's.  The Freeport Community Band is very proud to honor the 10 veterans that currently perform with the band as well as all of those who have served our country.

The program will begin with a color guard from the Marine Corps League, Port Washington Detachment #614 as we present the national anthems of both France and The United States.  Music inspired by our veterans include "The American Legion March", music from the series "Band of Brothers", and "March Militaire Frances".  Richard Rodgers stirring "Victory at Sea" and selcetions from his World War II inspired musical "South Pacific" are sure to be hightlights of this program.  The Freeport Community Band's vocalist will perform "As Time Goes By" from the movie Cassablanca.  Popular music of the era will include "The Homefront - Musical Memories of World War II".  This delightful medley includes Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Thanks for the Memory, The White Cliffs of Dover, I'll Be Seeing You, and many more.  "Big Band Favorites" conducted by Assistant Conductor Nathan Garfinkel, contains many of the popular swing tunes of the era, including; Stompin' at the Savoy, In the Mood, Woodchoppers Ball and more.  All veterans in attendance are asked to stand and be recognized during the band's performance of The Armed Forces Salute.  Keeping with the Sousa Band Shell's tradition the concert will conclude with a rousing performance of "The Stars and Stripes Forever".

The Freeport Community Band, under the direction of Sandra A. Vigliotti is pleased to be a part of the Band Shell's mission of preserving and presenting live concert band music in Port Washington.

The Freeport Community Band will be performing their Salute to our Armed Forces on Friday, June 13 at 8:15 at the Sousa Band Shell in Sunset Park.  The concert is free and all are welcome to enjoy an evening of inspiring music under the stars.
