Polar Plunge in Port Washington

The Special Olympics is sponsoring the 2010 Polar Plunge on Sat., March 13, at North Hempstead Beach Park, known as Bar Beach. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Plunge is at noon.

The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics in the state. Its purpose is to  raise funds to enhance Special Olympics mission: To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participants collect pledges from friends and family, all for the opportunity to jump into icy waters in the middle of winter. All proceeds collected by" plungers" benefit Special Olympics New York athletes.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories such as best costume, heated changing tents will be set up to also allow plungers to warm up and change, while warm concessions and fun souvenirs will be offered throughout the day

Incentives will be awarded to individuals who reach certain sponsorship goals  and Awards and Prizes will be given to to teams and fundraisers.

To get involved, gather your friends, family and coworkers and start your team.

Set a goal and let everyone know that you are taking the PLUNGE to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York - through e-mail, word of mouth, etc.
