The Pine Barrens

John Turner, co-founder of the Long Island Pine Barrens Society, will speak about Long Island’s premier ecosystem, which once covered one-fourth of the Island’s land mass, but today, has only 105,000 acres remaining. The Pine Barrens sits atop the greatest quantities of the purest drinking water left on Long Island and boasts the greatest diversity of plant and animal species anywhere in New York State.

This program is sponsored by the North Shore Audubon Society. For more information on this organization go to the website: northshoreaudubon.org. To contact Manhasset Public Library at 30 Onderdonk Avenue, phone 627-2300
