Helping to Fight Hunger on Long Island

Whole Foods is partnering with Long Island Harvest to help address hunger in local communities.

Whole Foods Market recently presented Mineola-based Island Harvest Food Bank with a check for $15,966, as part of a continued effort to assist Long Island families struggling with hunger.

The contribution is in addition to Whole Foods Market’s “Feed Four More,” initiative, which donated 14 pallets of fresh, nutritious food to Island Harvest during last year’s holiday season.

“Whole Foods Market recognizes that hunger is a year-round issue across Long Island, and we understand the vital importance of providing good, nutritious food to those who are struggling with hunger,” said Mandy Li, marketing team leader for Whole Foods Market in Jericho, in a statement.

Island Harvest's Food Bank – the organization's warehouse is based in Hauppauge –provides food and non-food items for people who are hungry and in need, and aims to help them attain stability.

“It’s through partnerships with organizations like Island Harvest that help ensure that no one, especially children, go without food,” Li said.

Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest said the organization appreciates the contributions made by Whole Foods Markets and its Long Island employees "in helping us in our mission of addressing the critical problem of hunger in our communities.”

“The economy is still a chronic issue, driving nearly 70,000 Long Islanders to seek supplemental food assistance each week from area soup kitchens, food pantries and other feeding programs supplied by Island Harvest.”
