Martins to Sponsor Free Legal Services Program in New Hyde Park

The program aims to serve residents in need.

Residents seeking free legal services may be in luck on Friday Aug. 8.

That's when Sen. Jack Martins, R-Mineola, is sponsoring a program that brings the Mobile Legal Help Center to the Herricks Community Center at 999 Herricks Road in New Hyde Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group, or NYLAG, and the New York State Office of Court Administration, brings free, civil legal services directly into communities.

NYLAG staff will be available to provide free legal assistance to local residents on issues related to:

         ·      Domestic violence
         ·      Family Law
         ·      Healthcare and disability benefits
         ·      Housing
         ·      Identity theft and consumer credit issues
         ·      Advance Planning

Individuals should bring with them any documentation related to their situation that may be useful to the NYLAG staff in providing assistance.

Appointments are recommended but walk-ins will be accepted and served as
time permits.

Residents who would like more information about the free legal services program on Aug. 8 or would like to make an appointment should call Sen. Martins’ office at 516-746-5924.
