Chabad's Chanukah Celebration Lights Up The Night

The first of eight candles was lit at sundown on Tuesday by Jews around the world.

Crowds showed up at the plaza in Port Washington on Tuesday night to witness the lighting of the giant menorah signaling the first night of Chanukah. This year the Jewish festival of lights began on Dec. 20 and will last through Dec. 27. Hot latkes, chocolate Chanukah gelt and colorful balloons combined with holiday music and dance while everyone waited for sundown when the first of eight candles would be lit. The public display of the menorah is a tradition with, led by Rabbi Shalom Paltiel. Everyone present was offered a single candle to light before going home to enjoy this happy eight-day celebration.
