Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society Announces Holiday Fair Plans

Annual event which runs Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sands-Willet House.

Plans have been announced for the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society's Holiday Fair.

Decorated with ornaments, greenery and bows for the annual event, the Sands-Willets House at 336 Port Washington Blvd. will feature live music in the parlor and caroling on the open porch with hot spiced cider and a “Cookie Holiday Tree.” 

The Holiday Fair will include the debut of a brand new exhibit: The Art of Quilting: Fibers, Fabrics & Fashion, featuring hundreds of years of quilting styles. More than 50 quilts and coverlets from the CNPHS collection will be on display, including cotton patchwork quilts, a unique Trapunto quilt, a flour sack quilt, crazy quilts of velvets and silks, a flag quilt and woven coverlets.

A vintage jewelry boutique will be open with handcrafted gifts available for sale. The double living room will be resplendent with special gift items, including hand pressed floral stationery, tiny chenille animals and miniature holiday oil paintings.  

On the porch, fresh greenery wreaths will be available for sale with the option to add special bows and ornaments. Specialty hand-created wreaths will adorn the windows of the house and will also be for sale.

The “Cow Neck Café” in the Sands-Willets Dining Room will be serving soups and crusty hot bread. Plus visit bakery table will serve up home-made treats and holiday cookies to eat or take home.

New this year will be the Elf’s Workshop for kids and families. The workshop includes crafts and activities for families. Help make a life size “paper quilt” or a special orange and clove pomander ornament. There will be story hour with the Elves at select times. Resident artists Larry and Lynne Chrapliwy will be available to demonstrate painting and they will work on a special torn paper craft with the children, as well as cookie decorating.

Admission is free to the event which runs Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
