WHY DESTROY PORT WASHINGTON!
Walking down Main Street is a real eye opener for many reasons. Whether it's the garbage thrown about or the way in which drivers create substantial dangers too many people just do not care. I guess it's better to say too many people and youngsters do not care about anyone else. This is a very sad comment, but one numerous readers have commented on in the Patch online especially when it comes to the way in which some drive.
When it comes to garbage, we have to point the finger at those who just throw it out of their car or hurl a beer can or soda can wherever they wish to. Then there are those people who leave the movie theater and drop their trash on the street. I spend a lot of time cleaning up after them. These might be the very same people who get angry when a dog owner does not clean up after their pet. I strongly believe the same people who run red lights or race through crosswalks narrowly missing pedestrians complain about the lack of concern other drivers exhibit.
Port Washington on the whole is a very nice place to live. It sure beats some other Long Island towns I have resided in. Unfortunate, as it is it is losing it's beauty to those who just do not care. Could this possible be one reason why stores and some restaurants are going out of business and why we see more and more vacant store fronts?
The news coverage of the accident at Shore Road and Manorhaven Blvd. where a driver made a left turn on a red light does not help to improve the image of Port Washington. Now I have started to see graffitti around town. What else do we need to make our community a little less appealing to others?
