Things We Need Are not Always in Reach, Especially in Port Washington

How far do we have to travel to find the types of businesses that Port Washington lacks?

Port Washington is a great place to live, but what happens when you need to get office supplies or a pair of jeans?  Sure, you could get a high-end pocketbook or have your nails done, or have your hair cut at countless locations in town. Unfortunately, for some of the things you really need, you have to battle traffic and head to Manhasset or even go as far as Roosevelt Field or to Old Country Road to shop. The reality is that some of the major big box stores would never open a store on the Port Washington peninsula.

Despite there being numerous vacant stores along Shore Road and Main Street, businesses need to hear from residents to better judge whether doing business in Port Washington is feasible. Along Shore Road two of the strip malls have ample parking and easy access for deliveries. Maybe the opening of the Soundview Theatre will help bring in some new business?

I would like to hear from readers as to what type of business they feel our town needs (please be realistic). Wal-Mart and Target-type stores are not even a thought as there is not enough property to house them. Some recent sugestions were, Trader Joe's, Staples, Pannera Bread, Other ethinc restaurants ( Korean, Portugesse, Vietnamesse). Give it some thought and comment on this story and add your suggestions.
