NY vs NJ gas prices

Has anyone else noticed the huge gas price increase in this past few weeks? I paid $3.37 in NJ yesterday only to come to Port Washignton and see gas at $3.97. What an amazing difference between state prices.

NYS taxes 32 cents more per gallon than NJ. That accounts for a significant portion of the price difference. There are probably some local taxes to take into consideration as well. We pay a very high price to live in the Empire State.

Road maintenance has to come from somewhere, lower gas tax just means it comes from other sources of revenue.

@Sadeto, does all the money raised from the gasoline tax go to road maintenance, or does it go into the general fund?
