Shame on New York

Because New York State Senator Dean Skelos refused to allow the Compassionate Care Act (legalization of medical marijuana) to come up for a vote, the Assembly Democrats included the Act in their proposed budget so that the legislature could finally voice their approval. Unfortunately, today we learn that the Governor,  the Democratic leader of the Assembly and the Republican leader of the Senate have reached an agreement on the budget which did not include the Compassionate Care Act. This occurred despite the fact that a majority of the legislature was in favor of the Act and that the act would have been revenue positive, bringing significant amounts of tax dollars to the State. While I am not privy to Albany's machinations, I am disappointed with  the Democrats, the Republicans and the Governor. I am especially disappointed with the voters who didn't let their representatives in Albany know that they wanted New York to join many other compassionate states in the legalization of medical marijuana. Voters should be aware that the Compassionate Care Act is still pending and is still being blocked by Sen. Skelos. If you are in favor of this needed and compassionate legislation, it's not too late to let your State legislators know .
