The Port Washington Parks Conservancy describes Stannards Brook Park as "a unique natural oasis in Port Washington." The organization has worked for more than five years with Nassau County, neighbors, and friends to plan this $1 million dollar rehabilitation and restoration project. According to the PWPC, funding for the project was secured through the Nassau County Environmental Bond Act, the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, and a Town of North Hempstead grant.
