The Nourished Family: A Summer Recipe to Keep You Cool

Beat the heat with healthy tips and a recipe to stay cool from Holistic Health and Lifestyle Coach, Lorraine Miller.

Summer is here and things are definitely heating up in Port! As your local Holistic Heath and Lifestyle Coach, I am excited to share my best tips for healthy, happy living with you here on Patch!

As the weather heats up, our bodies require extra attention to keep us going and it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated. To keep your energy up, stick with pure water and herbal iced teas, as caffeinated beverages can dehydrate you, even iced ones. (Rule of thumb: for every caffeinated beverage, drink 2 glasses of water).

For an extra boost try coconut water. Loaded with vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, coconut water helps support your body through the heat so you can continue to thrive in hot months. (Think how widespread coconuts are in hot, tropical places. Nature always gives us exactly what we need!)

Another great way to stay cool is to add raw foods to your diet as much as possible. Local fruit and veggies are plentiful on Long Island and provide the nutrition your body craves this time of year.

Enjoy this super yummy, quick-and-easy recipe and stay cool!
