Filmmaker John Fasano, from Port Washington, Dies

Fasano's many film credits include "Another 48 Hrs.," starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.

John Fasano, a filmmaker who grew up in Port Washington and attended Schreiber High School, has died at age 52.

Fasano died of heart failure in his sleep in his Los Angeles home, according to Newsday.

His television credits include co-wriring “Jess Stone: StoneCold,” part of a CBS telefilm series starring Tom Selleck; adapting “The Hunchback,” featuring Mandy Patinkin; and writing “Saving Jessica Lynch.”

At age 8, Fasano became smitten with filmmaking when he was asked to bring a cup of coffee to actor Ben Gazzara, who was starring in John Cassavetes’ “Husbands,” which was filming in Port Washington, according to Hollywood Reporter. Fasano stuck with film ever since and later graduated from State University of New York at Purchase.

He is survived by his wife Edie, his children Lucia and John Cody, and his sister Felicia Fasano, a casting director, according to Hollywood Reporter.
