Former Port North Village Mayor Dies

Joel Joseph passes away at 80.

The Village of Port Washington North is mourning the loss of former Mayor Joel Joseph who died June 14 at the age of 80.

Joseph served as mayor from 1965 to 1971 and as village trustee from 1964 to 1965. He later served as chair of the village’s 50th anniversary committee from 1980 to 1982 and village historian from 1982 to 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, three sons and eight grandchildren.

Joseph’s helped to modernize the village code which has allowed allowed for more efficient government according to the village website.

"I join the entire Village and Port Washington community in expressing my sympathies to Mayor Joseph’s wife, Phyllis and three children, Michael, Jon and Adam. In the short future, a dedication will be made in Bay Walk Park in memory of Mayor Joseph," said Village of Port Washington North Mayor Bob Weitzner in statement.

A memorial service was held June 16 in New Jersey.
