Maureen V. Hanley, Teacher at St. Peter School, Dies

Hanley was a teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara School for 36 years.

Maureen V. Hanley (nee O’Flaherty) passed away March 21 after courageously facing several years of illness, according to son Thomas A. Hanley, Jr. She was 79.

Devoted wife of Thomas (deceased), loving mother of Dorothy McGovern (Lawrence), Maureen Reedy (John), Ellen Whiteman (Brian), Thomas, Jr., and John (Jennifer).

Enthusiastic grandmother to 15 and caring sister to Patricia Brennan and John O’Flaherty.

Formerly of Port Washington but resided in Breezy Point, N.Y., since retiring.

Generously gave 36 years of her professional life to teaching at St. Peter of Alcantara School, Port Washington, a vocation about which she was truly passionate.

Her life was marked by an infinite love for people, appreciation for God’s creation (“the beach”), remarkable and unyielding courage, a rich spiritual life, and an endless supply of gratitude.

Wake service was held at Fairchild Funeral Chapel, Manhasset, March 24 and 25. Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, March 26, at St. Peter of Alcantara Church, Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in support of the Maureen V. Hanley Scholarship, St. Peter of Alcantara School, 1321 Port Washington Boulevard, Port Washington, NY, 11050.
