Question Of The Day: Job Market For College Grads

Are companies hiring?

A recent blog post by career coach and job search strategist Cathy Rimsky on Port Washington Patch offered who are seeking jobs.

Rimsky urged job seekers to network face-to-face, seeking information and advice, and more.

Which leades to the question: Are you or is someone you know a recent college graduate? Does the job market seem receptive? Tell us in the comments.

It looks to me that those entering the corporate jobs start thinking the prior fall and land job commitments by February or March. They often have a leg up because over the summers they had internships with the firm they eventually end up working for, or in the same industry. While this doesn't help for those now looking, rising sophomores, juniors and seniors can plan for next year. It's very tough and competitive.

That's great advice, thanks Joe!

Great thoughts Joe. For those who have not secured something in their senior year, I think it is important to be flexible about your first job. You may not get exactly what you want but it's a start and an opportunity to gain valuable skills and exposure. Being flexible and open will help you get that first job.
