Question Of The Day: Multicultural Riches in Port

What are the benefits of Port's diversity?

Many residents chose Port Washington because of its diversity.

And given the large turnout for  Port Washington knows how to celebrate multiculturalism. There was live music, food samples and dancing. And the and continue to offer more.

Which leads to the question: How do you celebrate local diversity. Through concerts? Local ethnic restaurants? In the schools?

No.
I see well healed white people in beautiful homes with high end cars, county clubs, etc. and then I see others many hispanics stuggle live in basement apartments work in landramats, at the car wash, etc. serving all of the affluent white folks. I have never been into Harbor Homes the new or the old housing project which is filled with African American people I do not think that any white people live here. Port Washington is not divesified this is a community of fences. .
John D. Reckenhouser May 3, 2012 at 07:10 pm
That's the way you see it, I keep at least four hispanics in money helping me gardening, repairing my home and cleaning. I make sure they have a Green Card or are citizens. I went to collage I have 2 post grad. degrees. I'd be more that happy to hire you but you sound like a real commie. My grandfather (carried Ice up flights of stairs) my father waited on tables so I could get an education . That is the way I can have a great house and auto., The only thing that was different was they did not live on the Gold Coast and came here the correct way not over fences. Ben you're a crying heart Lib.

The two comments here are another example of the dangers of anonymous posting. The vitriolic (if not at least some racial undertones) of these comments by individuals who won't identify themselves, creates an unnecessary environment of polarization.

Richard, How right you are I have commented before that the patch require posters to use their own name. Two reasons I request this is that many people are braver whin no one knows who they are. lets see how brave they are when we know who they are.

Also, no one has answered the question. There is so much music and art in town brought here because of the community's diversity.

@ Glynnins, John D. Reckenhouse, etc,
Dont shoot the messenger - my remarks are accurate and you know it. The fact is that you dont like Hispanics living in illegal basement apartments, etc. any more than I do. As for living in Harbor Homes I suspect that I have too much money State of New York DCHR governs this project and so I will stay put here on Longview Road with my afflluent white neighbors. Glynnis Harold claims that all of the hispanic residents in town are sending money back home via Western Union? This makes no sense to me? If this were true I suggest that the practice be stopped spend the money on tuition a way to better ones situation here in Port Washington forget about the people back home. And I am glad John Reckenhose had a father to "wait tables to put him through college" I paid my own way through college with finacial aid, scholarships and student loans I paid my own tuition my parents did not pay my tution. And Reckenhouse is a hero he hires our local downtrotten to work in his yard and do his laundry this guy is a gift to humanity. Port Washington is a community of fences I live amoung affluent white people and thats a fact there is not a great deal of cultural diversity here in Port Washington and thats a fact.

Particularly out of line since it's a shared-use puddle for camp groups splashing, not a good poolRead More venue for individuals swimming.

The TONH should be under some investigation for charging such a high fee for a very short summerRead More season. You lose most of june and the pool closes in early September. Better off paying as you go just purchase the parking permit which is good at the Manorhaven Pool and the Harbor beach. Stop buying a season pass in protest to the yearly excessive price increase.

And speaking of investigations, what's up with Jonny's Roslyn CC fiasco?

Contact the Village and the water district, it's probably a problem with a pipe on your street.
