1 Injured in Accident on Port Washington Blvd

The accident occurred Thursday morning on Port Washington Blvd.

An accident that tied up traffic after 9 a.m. Thursday on Port Washington Blvd and Derby Road left one person injured, authorities said.

The accident occurred when a Port Washington Fire Department ambulance, was stopped at a red light, and struck from behind by a Mercedes Benz, Port Washington Police Deputy Chief Robert Del Muro said.

Two occupants of the ambulance were checked by the other medics for neck and back injuries and were released at the scene, according to police. The driver of the Mercedes complained of neck and back pain and was transported to a local hospital.

The Mercedes incurred significant damage, and was towed from the scene. Slight damage to the ambulance does not prevent it from being used, police said.
