Body Discovered In Bay Identified As Former Federal Prosecutor

Assistant District Attorney Richard Appleby had been reported missing by NYPD.

Appleby, who lived in Manhattan, suffered from Parkinson's, according to an NYPD missing persons alert issued before he was discovered. He had recently gone off his medication for the disease.

Homicide detectives had initially been dispatched to investigate before the body had been identified as that of the 66-year-old former assistant prosecutor of the Eastern District in Brooklyn. But a spokesman for the Nassau County Police Department now says that they do not currently suspect any criminality in the death.
