Brooklyn Man Arrested for Grand Larceny in Manhasset

Police say the man was observed taking a watch and clothing worth thousands of dollars.

A Brooklyn man was arrested for grand larceny after allegedly taking merchandise from Coin Galleries of Oyster Bay at 1508 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset on Friday, said.

Sixth Squad detectives arrested  Edward Jones, 39, of 100 Lefferts Avenue, Brooklyn, on Friday, May 11 at 2:12 p.m.

According to detectives, Jones entered the Coin Galleries of Oyster Bay on Friday at about 1:40 p.m. and asked about items for sale. Police say Jones was observed on surveillance video taking a watch worth more than $9,000 from a display case, and then suddenly leaving the store. Police say Jones then fled the scene in a 2004 black Lincoln Town Car.  Spotting the car shortly after by the Long Island Expressway, police stopped Jones, who was then identified and arrested.

After an investigation, Sixth Squad detectives say Jones was linked to a grand larceny at the Tory Burch store at 1992 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, that took place that same Friday at about 12:14 p.m. He was observed on surveillance video taking various merchandise worth more than $4,000 from a display rack, concealing the items in his pants and then leaving the store, according to police.

Jones was charged with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree. He was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
