Cops: Great Neck Man Faces Attempted Kidnapping Charges in Manorhaven

Incident took place on Sintsink Drive East.

A Great Neck man has been charged with attempted kidnapping on Thursday at 5:35 p.m. after an incident in Manorhaven, Nassau County police say.

Third Squad detectives say a man was sitting in a 2008 Chevrolet while parked in his Sintink Drive East driveway when Edward Sedaghati, wearing a ski mask and dark clothing, entered the vehicle on the passenger side. Sedaghati, 29, of Edgewood Place in Great Neck, removed a handgun from a knapsack he was carrying, when a struggle ensued.

The Manorhaven man managed to push Sedaghati out of the car, and took control of the handgun, according to police.  A 29-year-old man passing by assisted the Manorhaven resident, holding Sedaghati until police arrived.

Police found an imitation handgun at the scene, and say they also found a gravity knife, duct tape, tie wraps and a bag of marijuana in Sedaghati’s knapsack.

No injuries were reported.

Sedaghati was charged with attempted kidnapping in the second degree, menacing in the second degree, possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was scheduled for arraignment at First Degree Court in Hempstead on Friday.

So was it or was it not a real gun?

I assume not a gun or it would be possession of a weapon in the second degree. Possession of a weapon in the fourth degree is for the knife

Too bad the driver wasn't armed...

Sounds like there's more to this story!

Yeah, then we'd have bullets flying in a family neighborhood and maybe even a dead man. That would be a much better outcome.

Dead criminal would stop the bullets.
NYB January 26, 2013 at 04:01 pm
Would bullets flying around a commercial neighborhood be better? How about an industrial neighborhood? The problem here is that a low functioning criminal thinks he can abduct a resident with impunity because he knows that the chances of him getting seriously injured in the process are low, and at worst he'll spend a few months in jail. The problem are the emboldened criminals. If they knew they could get shot, they wouldn't be doing this.

I wonder if they knew each other, you rarely hear any of these kinds of stories around the area. I would not be surprised if there was a lot more to this story.

I agree. I am not naive, but when I read this story, I thought there might be more to it. Does not seem quite right to me.

Possible, but don't let it lull you into security, random car jacking is a real problem in some places, you are just a few determined criminals away from this becoming a reality in your own back yard.

He is not a criminal. He is a very good kid actually, kind & very good hearted. His father passed away a little while ago & he was not feeling good & was on medication for some mental health problems he was dealing with. He didn't like this kid because i heard he used to pick on him.. You never know what is going on in people's mind, that's why people should not bully anyone & not think they own the world.

I don't know him, but I do know the family and a little about him. He is not a criminal, at least not before this incident.
Never been in trouble with the law, and that was not a real gun. This man needs help.
