An East Elmhurst man has been charged with assault for an incident that took place in Roslyn on Thursday.
According to Nassau County detectives, an off-duty Nassau County police officer saw Mark Trinkler, 32, of East Elmhurst, leave a CVS Pharmacy at 373 Willis Avenue, with merchandise without paying for it.
Third Squad detectives say that once outside the store, the officer assisted the CVS store manager and attempted to place the suspect under arrest.
But the suspect “refused all commands and fought with the officer,” who fell and injured his right hand and left knee, police said.
Another off-duty New York police officer assisted, holding the suspect until additional police arrived.
The Nassau police officer was treated and released for his injuries at a nearby hospital.
While searching Trinkier during the arrest, police said they found he had three fraudulent prescriptions.
Trinkler was charged with second-degree assault, three counts of possession of a forged Instrument in the second degree, and petit larceny.
He was to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
