A Sayville man is being charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, as well as four other criminal counts, for allegedly causing more than $10,000 in damage to a Long Island golf course.
say Chris Meier, 49, drove a 1995 Ford Taurus onto the Deepdale Golf Club in Manhasset Tuesday evening and struck at least two unoccupied golf carts and caused extensive damage to the club’s property before his car became stuck in a sand trap. Meier allegedly then tried to run from the scene but was detained by club employees, according to police.
He was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, aggravated DWI and DWI.
Police said the exact amount of damage to the golf carts and complete extent of damage to the course has yet to be determined but police expect the damage will total more than $10,000.
Meier will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
