A Massapequa teacher from Rockville Centre faces drug possession charges after she was found with heroin during a traffic stop, police said.

Kerri Creegan, 33, was pulled over in Freeport at 3 p.m. Wednesday for having a defective tail light, cops said. During the stop, police said they found her to be in possession of "glassine bag of heroin."

Creegan was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Creegan is a ninth grade social studies teacher at Massapequa High School's Ames campus, according to district records.

"The district received a call from the Nassau County Police Department late Wednesday regarding this arrest," the district said in a statement, according to Newsday. "As this is a personnel matter and an active investigation, we cannot comment further at this time. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in all aspects regarding this incident."

Ames campus students begin final exams Monday, according to the finals schedule.

The status of Creegan's employment is unknown.

Creegan will be arraigned June 23.

Knee jerk thats exactly how it is on my job. Even down to the time you have to respond. I think this should be extended to teachers!

It will eventually , I would expect. Of course the teacher unions will expect some form of additional payments or benefits for doing so.

This "heroin problem" was all brought on by big pharma pushing synthetic heroin as pain killers and down playing the side effects to the drs ther solicit to. Purdue got in big trouble for lying about oxycontin. Add this to the fact that a handful of unscrupulous drs become drug dealers and a greater amount are just toi naive to know the potential for abuse and youve got a problem. I will admit these narcotics do work great for pain but they were definately overprescribed. So to combat this agressive people like kathleen rice crack down on drs both good and bad without thinking about what the consequenses will be leaving a new generation of addicts to get their drugs on the street. Personally i think the govt should just give all addicts their drugs for free so the criminal element would be exterminated and we wouldnt have to waste money on 20 failed rehab stints forjohn doe. He can just do heroin till he dies andthe theory of "survival of the fittest" can prevail. But i guess thats just the crazy libertarian in me talking. Smh
