Cops: Several Cars Broken into in Port Washington

Some cars were 'forcibly opened,' police say.

Port Washington police are investigating a cluster of car break-ins in and around the “President Section” in Port Washington.

Several break-ins were reported this week, including one on Adams Street, said Assistant Police Chief James Salerno. At least three of the complaints were larcenies. One was a case of criminal mischief, where the car was damaged, but nothing was taken.

“Some vehicles were forcibly opened and others were left unlocked,” Salerno said.

Salerno said police are reminding residents to “lock their vehicles and not to leave valuables inside – wallets, laptops, briefcases, etc. – and to alert the police if they see anything suspicious or hear anything unusual in their neighborhood.”
