Crimes Nearby: Pharmaceutical Theft, Resisting Arrest And More

Farmingdale

Suffolk County Police are seeking a man who stole a piece of equipment last week worth $18,000 from an East Farmingdale pharmaceutical company.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives said a detection unit from a pill counting machine was taken.

They said that at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, a man entered the back of  LLC, at 226B Sherwood Ave., took the unit and left the building.

An upstate woman was busted for driving drunk on the Southern State Parkway using a license that's been suspended more than 10 times, state police said.

Heidi Herring, 38, of Fishkill, was spotted traveling east on the Parkway near Hicksville Road in Massapequa. She was driving erratically, according to police.

Troopers were dispatched, and said they saw Herring making an unsafe exit at Route 109 in Farmingdale where she was stopped. She failed a sobriety test and produced a breath sample of  0.32 Blood Alcohol Concentration, four times the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

Herring was charged with driving while intoxicated and felony aggravated unlicensed operation for having more than 10 suspensions.  She also faces several traffic violations.

Hicksville

A Hicksville man pointed a loaded handgun at a husband and wife, then struggled with cops and led them on a wild chase before being forcibly subdued, Nassau Police said Monday.

The incident began around midnight Monday when Manuel Carbajal, 27, approached a woman  and pointed a gun at her. When she screamed, her husband tried to intervene and also saw the gun pointed at him, police said. Neither were hurt, police said.  Police located him and found a loaded .22 caliber semi automatic handgun in his pocket.  A struggle broke out during which an officer was struck in the face multiple times, When the officer’s police radio fell to the ground, Carbajal picked it up and fled, police said.

Police found Carbajal in the back yard of his residence. There, another fight ensued, with Carbajal, who grabbed at an officer’s handgun. He  was subdued and placed into custody.

The injured officer was treated for facial cuts. The police radio was recovered.

The defendant was charged with multiple felony counts including robbery, assault, menacing, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest.

North Bellmore

A 33-year-old man was struck with a handgun multiple times during an attempted robbery in North Bellmore on Wednesday, police said. The assailant demanded the victim's belongings and when the victim did not comply struck him with the handgun on his head and arms multiple times, police said. 
He then fled the According to police, the victim refused medical treatment on the scene.

East Meadow

A Hicksville man was arrested last week and charged in three burglaries. Thursday for his role in a string of 2010 burglaries, including one at  in East Meadow.

According to police, on Sept. 5, 2010, Peter Marchese, 20, along with two other people, entered the Citgo gas station at 400 Broadway in Hicksville at 12:30 a.m. by breaking the glass to the front door. They allegedly stole beer and cigarettes from the racks before moving on to another Hicksville Citgo at 1 Barter Ln. at 1 a.m.

The threesome allegedly broke the glass to the front door at this Citgo as well so they could take more drinks and cigarettes from this location.

After stealing from the two gas stations, police say the trio moved on to Johnny 5's Bar and Grill in East Meadow They pried open a rear door and removed cash and coins from the register, police said.

Marchese was identified through DNA from blood recovered at the scene of the burglaries, police said.

North Hills

A Williston Park woman was arrested on DWI and other charges after police officers observed her failing to remain in a single lane of traffic on Searingtown Road in North Hills late Saturday night.

According to police, Maria Hamilton, 37, was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra when officers stopped her. Police reported that Hamilton appeared to be intoxicated and officers placed her under arrest. During the arrest, a 1-year-old girl was found in the back seat of the vehicle.

Hamilton is being charged with Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and other traffic violations. She will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.

A Queens man was arrested last week after leading police on a chase through Herricks and Williston Park in a stolen luxury car.

According to detectives, a 50 year old man saw Donald G. Gunter, 19, of Jamaica, Queens shifting through items in the victim’s car that was parked in his driveway before fleeing in a 1999 BMW that was later determined to be stolen. With the homeowner in pursuit in his own car, Gunter then collided with a parked car and a tree and fled again on foot.

 Officers were able to locate and arrest Gunter in Williston Park without incident using an aviation unit and canine support. No injuries were reported.

According to police, other victims in New Hyde Park realized later that property had been removed from their cars and made reports to police. No victims reported any damage.

Gunter is charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, five counts of fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of attempted petit larceny, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, unlicensed operator and leaving an incident without making a report.
