Divers Find Body in Manhasset Bay in Port Washington

Body was found in the vicinity where three others fell off a capsized rowboat.

Divers recovered a body Thursday about 150 yards offshore from the in Port Washington, Nassau County Police said. The divers were searching for a 25-year-old missing person who fell into the water after a rowboat capsized in Manhasset Bay. The body was found in about 11 feet of water. 

At 4:10 p.m. divers from the Nassau County Marine Bureau found the body in the vicinity where four men they had taken very early Thursday morning. Three of those men swam to moored vessels, where they were rescued by a Manhasset Bay Yacht Club tender operator, according to police. They were rushed to St. Francis Hospital where they were treated for hypothermia.

At about 4:45 p.m., the body was brought to the Town Dock.

"At this time we're not going to identify that body," said Nassau County Police Lt. Kevin Smith. "It's a good chance it's related to the occurance that happened last night."

However pending a positive identification, police would not say more at this time.
